The Cabrini Mission Foundation has a long history of working with migrants and displaced persons. This entity working with migrants on the border with Mexico sees the leadership of Sister Petrina Raccuglia, MSC. The Cabrini Mission Foundation has made two trips to the state of Texas on the U.S.-Mexico border. Displaced persons, who have fled their homes due to conflict, crime, persecution, poverty or simply in the hope of a new beginning and a better life, are often preyed upon during their arduous journey. Responding to the Gospel call to justice and love, honoring Catholic social teachings on the dignity of all people, and continuing the legacy of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, Patroness of Immigrants, the Cabrini Mission Foundation has maintained a proactive approach to the border crisis throughout the duration of the pandemic. Within the Cabrini Mission Foundation is the “Border Fund.” The Cabrini Mission Foundation’s Border Fund continues Mother Cabrini’s work of extending God’s love to those in need by providing compassionate care and practical help. The Border Fund helps stranded migrants with a safe place to sleep, clean water to drink and adequate food in well-run migrant shelters. Cabrini Mission Foundation works with local nonprofits in Mexico such as Angry Tias and Abuelas of the Rio Grande Valley, Casa Migrante San Juan Diego y San Francisco de Asis A.C , One Mission with Pastor Abraham Barberi of One Mission Ministries and Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley to establish and manage shelters that allow families and individuals to live with dignity while they wait for their issues to be addressed. This video was shot and posted by Pastor Abraham Barberi, who runs the shelter at his church in Matamoros and is one of our shelter partners working on the US-Mexico border with migrants and appears at the end of the video. What you see in the video is one of three shelters that we are currently partnering with.  A fourth shelter is in the works for those waiting to enter the United States. The Cabrini Mission Foundation has provided this shelter with 17 bunk beds and 25 mattresses, a commercial refrigerator and freezer, as well as cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, face masks, paper items such as plates, glasses, paper towels, and trash bags.
