On Oct. 9, 2022, General Government Sisters Sister Eliane, Sister Gilda, Sister Patricia, and Sister Stella together with Sister Dicelia from the Gordiani community on Anagni Street participated in the Eucharistic Celebration in St. Peter’s Square for the canonization of two saints of the Church, Father Giovanni Battista Scalabrini and Artemide Zatti.

Pope Francis in his homily emphasized how “The two saints canonized today remind us of the importance of walking together and of knowing how to give thanks.”

John Baptist Scalabrini affirmed that in the common journey of those who emigrate, one must see not only problems, but also a plan of Providence.

Salesian Artemide Zatti was a living example of gratitude: healed from tuberculosis, he devoted his entire life to helping others, to caring for the sick with love and tenderness.

The Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, represented by the General Council, gives thanks to God for the charism of St. John Baptist Scalabrini in the service of migrants. He was indeed a pioneer of ‘welcoming with Mother Cabrini.

A Mass of Thanksgiving and an Audience for Scalabrinian Congregations was held on October 10.
Pope Francis met with pilgrims who attended the canonization of John Baptist Scalabrini the previous day. “We are called today to live and spread the culture of encounter, an egalitarian encounter between migrants and the people of the country that welcomes them,” he said, urging “Scalabrinian missionaries to always be inspired by their Holy Founder, father of migrants, of all migrants.”
The Holy Father addressing the Scalabrinian Fathers said that to be inclusive one must be creative. A moment of celebration, fraternity and joy followed for the Scalabrinian family and the sisters who participated on behalf of the entire Institute.
