EMIGRATION, NISSOLI: MOTHER CABRINI A BRIDGE BETWEEN ITALY AND THE USA (9Colonne) Rome, Mar 8 – “Today, on Women’s Day, we are celebrating Mother Cabrini, who is a very well-known saint in the United States, the patron saint of migrants, who has truly created a bridge of solidarity between Italy and the United States. But I also want to remember all the women in Ukraine who are trying to get their children to safety and who are seeking freedom. And then a greeting goes also to all Italian women abroad who left for a better future”. These are the words of the elected deputy abroad Fucsia Fitzgerald NISSOLI, on the occasion of the press conference ‘Mother Cabrini the Angel of migrants in the works of Meo Carbone’, the artist who is taking his exhibition on the saint around Italy “with the hope – adds Carbone – to bring it to Ellis Island, the museum of Italian emigration, in 2023, to remember her arrival in New York”. According to NISSOLI, a resident of the United States, Mother Cabrini “could be a less controversial figure for the Americans than Christopher Columbus”, the navigator who has become the focus of revisionist controversies in recent years: “let it be clear that I support Columbus, but from the point of view of uniting the communities, her figure could be a good support”.
