The month of July ended in such a wonderful way for the Knitting Group at Cabrini Immigrant Services (CIS), Dobbs Ferry. CIS started the knitting group with 4 members. The purpose was to have our clients improve their English while doing something that they enjoyed. Currently, we have 20 students in the group. In addition to improving their English, they have become a support group for each other. They have donated facecloths and blankets to Samaritan’s Purse and the Linus Project. They are always looking for ways to benefit others.
On July 31st, the members of the knitting group were picked up at CIS in the new Cabrini of Westchester van. They were driven to St. Cabrini Nursing Home where they had a very delicious barbeque. What made the day even more special is that they met and dined with some of the residents who are interested in starting a knitting group at the nursing home. The weather was perfect so we were able to be outside on the back patio. The food was delicious! The conversations were many. Stories were shared about knitting and crocheting and about the different items that they have made. Language did not deter the two groups from enjoying each other’s company. As the group was returning to CIS, everyone was already planning for the next time they could get together. It is such a blessing to have our nursing home and immigration office so close to each other.
