Self-Help Credit Union (Self-Help) is part of a family of non-profit organizations whose collective mission is to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity for all.  Self-Help fulfills its mission by providing responsible financial services, such as lending to small businesses and nonprofits, developing real estate, and promoting fair financial practices.

Self-Help focuses on those who may be underserved by conventional lenders, including people of color, women, rural residents and low-wealth families and communities. Self-Help recently launched immigration bond loans to help immigrants held in federal detention centers return to their families sooner.

Self-Help also promotes policy solutions that encourage responsible lending and stop abusive financial practices, and partners with allies, industry leaders and policymakers to implement common-sense lending solutions that protect families and consumers.

Over its history, the Self-Help family of credit unions has provided financing to help over 158,000 low-wealth borrowers to buy homes, start and build businesses, and strengthen community development.

Self-Help has branches in California, Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
