In Colorado, the first Monday of October is celebrated every year as Cabrini Day. As of Monday evening, Sant' Angelo has its Cabrini Day on the first Sunday of October. The city council has officially established the day dedicated to the memory of Saint Frances Cabrini, «a date that in no way intends to interfere with the July celebrations, but which aims to be an important moment for the city and the area in the name of Saint Cabrini», as Mayor Cristiano Devecchi explained. A combination of factors prompted the administration to act, but above all it was the words of Pope Leo XIV last June 20 in the city for his devotional visit to the Saint. «The Pope's words 100 days ago are a current reference point and one for the future, they were the stimulus to accomplish something that we too had before our eyes but did not see -Mayor Devecchi told the city council. The Pope urged us to spread the name of Saint Cabrini, to make her known, and we are doing so, convinced that she can help build something important for the city, to trigger a day's worth of tourist appeal capable of giving the city a boost. We are establishing Cabrini Day as an important moment for the city and the entire area, and for the figure of Mother Cabrini, without wanting to overlap with or hinder the equally important celebrations that the parish holds in July». The municipal administration is convinced that it can make a qualitative leap in this area, also thanks to outside help. «On October 29 we will know whether Fondazione Cariplo will award the project we submitted to the Emblematic Major Projects call, an initiative worth 4 million euros, which brings together several municipalities and several entities -Mayor Devecchi concluded. Twenty years ago an attempt was made to launch Sant' Angelo from a tourism, cultural and religious point of view, to be mature enough to create the conditions for a different kind of development. The tourism-cultural working group will work on Cabrini Day, expanded to include two members of the minority, Luisella Pellegrini and Omar Damiani. The opposition parties have therefore also enthusiastically joined the idea, and voted in favor. Already this year on Sunday October 4 Saint Cabrini will be celebrated at Bolognini Castle with the presentation of Gianni Lattanzio's book «Francesca Cabrini. A saint tested by the times.»
