There are three ways to join us as a missionary – joining the congregation as a sister, joining us as a Cabrini Lay Missionary, or joining us as a collaborator.

Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

As vowed religious women, we MSCs have responded to God’s call in our lives. In rhythms of dialog, silence, prayer, faith-sharing, work, and leisure, we live co-responsibly in community as adult women committed to serving those in need, particularly women, children, frail elders and immigrants.

As a missionary congregation, we are available to be sent anywhere in the world in the service of the Church and to those who are most vulnerable. We are called to be open and hospitable, to be welcoming, and to lead a simple lifestyle.

Our communities are characterized by our internationality and an agile response to the needs presented by today’s cultures and realities.

Join Us as a Sister

If your heart is leading you to consider life as a religious sister and you have the desire to be sent, to serve, to be a bearer of Christ’s love in the world, we invite you to get to know us better!

Cabrini Lay Missionaries (CLMs)

CLMs are women and men who desire to live out their Christian Baptismal commitment as a special call from God in order to grow spiritually, witness Gospel values, and be agents of transformation in the world. CLMs hear and respond to their call by committing themselves to embrace and give witness to the love of the Heart of Jesus, according to the living legacy and spirit of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini.

They share in the concerns of the worldwide Cabrinian community with its emphasis on social justice, solidarity with the poor, and particularly on the needs of women, children, frail elders and immigrants. CLMs are found internationally, and receive local direction and support in the various countries in which they reside. CLMs minister in collaboration with the Missionary Sisters, the local Church or in other related works.

What is needed to become a CLM?

  • A sincere desire to grow spiritually and to serve others.
  • Familiarity with the particular spirit of Mother Cabrini and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
  • A time of formation and discernment.
  • Dialogue with the CLM director regarding the process to become a CLM.
  • A formal commitment following an application process and approval.

The CLM commitment is made and renewed annually, while longer commitments are possible after three years. A simple ceremony, usually held on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, celebrates the CLM commitment.

Cabrinian Collaborators

Collaborative relationships remain important for the MSCs today.

Today, the witness of Mother Cabrini lives on in the Cabrinian Family –  sisters and laity together – who continue to reach out to heal human suffering caused by egoism, abandonment, injustice, exploitation, desperation, and disease.  The Cabrinian Family continues to accompany their brothers and sisters on their journey with the compassion and mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who embraces all and understands all.

As Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, our life and spirit flow from our missionary identity expressed in prayer, community and ministry. Every vowed member participates fully in this identity. Laity are invited and encouraged to be Co-Sharers in Mission as Cabrini Lay Missionaries, Cabrini Companions, collaborators, volunteers and loyal friends. Together, we strive to live the gospel values we learn from the life of Frances Cabrini.
