Frances was entrusted with the task of caring for and educating her religious and, in drafting the Rules, she let herself be guided by the spirit of Jesus. In 1881, Bishop Gelmini gave diocesan approval and the sisters were recognized as Salesian Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The principles of the Rule that Mother Cabrini drafted were obedience, mortification, renunciation, vigilance of the heart, and inner silence.

The congregation’s rule was finally approved in 1907 when Mother Cabrini was fifty-seven years old. At that time, she had already established foundations in France, Spain and Italy, throughout the United States and South America. In 1880, the rule was approved, and as Francesca’s reputation grew, thanks to her tenacity in her work and her deep spirituality, she was able to found other convents in Milan and other parts of northern Italy.
