SANT’ANGELO Today the procession to remember the patron saint Santa Cabrini
In Sant’Angelo, the Cabrini July is entering its highlights. After a week of celebrations, meetings and moments of reflection, today and tomorrow the community is ready to take part in the events that have always drawn the largest number of people to the city center. Today the appointment is for 8 p.m. 45, when, after the recitation of vespers in the basilica, the maxi procession will begin, starting from the parking lot of the Il Castello shopping center and continuing to the churchyard on Via Umberto I where the parish priest, Monsignor Ermanno Livraghi, will give the blessing: as always, there will be no shortage of trucks, tractors, cars, motorcycles, including vintage ones, and bicycles, with the procession then returning to the starting point to give rise to a moment of refreshment, meeting and aggregation that has been missing since 2019, the last edition before the outbreak of the pandemic. Tomorrow, however, there will be no shortage of moments of remembrance and prayer: at 7:30 a.m. at the birthplace, Mass will be presided over by Fr. Antonello Martinenghi, while at 12 noon in Piazza XV Luglio, after the recitation of the Angelus by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the Santangiolina Columba doves will be released. In the evening at 8:30 p.m., the procession with the effigy of St. Cabrini will depart from the basilica and toward Piazza XV Luglio, with Monsignor Bassiano Uggè celebrating Mass concluded with benediction and singing “In the Heart of Great America” accompanied by the Band of St. Cecilia.

SANT’ANGELO At noon the flight of doves in remembrance of St. Frances Cabrini
One of the most heartfelt moments of the Cabrinian July, Mass celebrated tonight by vicar Monsignor Uggè The invitation to always fly high, like the doves soared on July 15, 1850, and again this morning, as every year, in remembrance of patron saint St. Francesca Cabrini. They were released at 12 noon sharp by Sister Maria Barbagallo and pigeon fanciers the doves, more than a hundred of them, flew into the skies of Sant’Angelo. One of the most heartfelt moments of Cabrinian July gathered in Piazza XV Luglio children, entire families and faithful from outside the city as well. Tonight at 9 p.m., also in the same square, the mass officiated by vicar general Monsignor Bassiano Uggè. (il cittadino.it)

The flight of doves a sign of peace
They rose into the air as if they were following the direction indicated by the statue of St. Frances Cabrini. To support and cheer the doves then the applause of those present, who braved the morning heat enjoying the light breeze that arose just at the moment when Monsignor Ermanno Livraghi gave the go-ahead for the opening of the cages. Representing an exciting moment every year for the entire city and the community of faithful at Sant’Angelo is the appointment of the flight of doves on the anniversary of the birth of St. Cabrini. At 12 noon, as happened on July 15, 1850, when the town and migrant patron saint was born, the birds rose into the sky, as if to signal what had just happened in what is now the birthplace a hundred meters away from Piazza XV Luglio, where Saturday morning as early as 11:30 a.m. many were arriving. An invitation to “loosen your wings,” as always reminded by the saint, also came from parish priest Monsignor Livraghi. “Always fly high,” he reiterated to those present, welcoming a group of children at the foot of the statue of St. Cabrini as they waited for the flight of doves, with the cages opened together with the Santangiolini pigeon fanciers by Sister Maria Barbagallo, representing the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who, during the recitation of the Angelus, recalled values such as peace, communion and closeness to one’s neighbor. Then precisely the flight of doves, with a Monsignor Livraghi, flanked by Sub-Commissioner Cristiano Cosa. There was even greater emotion on Saturday, since the one in 2023 was the last Cabrinian July event experienced as pastor of Sant’Angelo. Flight of doves, coordinated as always by the group “A Saint for a Friend” led by Bruno Cerri, which is also accompanied as always by the opening of the birth house. n N. A.
