Today is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven.
In the document, “Foundation of the First House in Argentina College Santa Rosa da Lima”, it is told that for several years on August 15, First Communions were held under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Pope, during the WYD Vigil celebration in Lisbon, portrayed the Blessed Virgin as a “Missionary of Joy” during his address to young people.
Mary, our Mother, always extends her hand to us, always comes to our aid “in haste” and shows us the way, that is, to follow Jesus. He recalled this on Saturday in the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima: “Whenever we invoke her, she comes to us; she hastens to be near us, because she is our Mother.”
So much so that the motto of World Youth Day was: “Mary set out and went in haste” (Lk. 1:39). The Holy Father then added that Mary was the first to make a pilgrimage after the Annunciation. Her life, after all, was a pilgrimage.
Mary accompanied Jesus’ life and, after His resurrection, continued to accompany the disciples as they waited for the Holy Spirit and the Church after Pentecost.
